When It Hurts So Much You Can’t Even Turn It Into Words — Cristian Mihai

I only ever experienced real writer’s block once in my life. March 2014 was the worst month of my life. My grandfather died, my girlfriend broke up with me, my father decided to never speak with me again, and I had to struggle with quite a few serious health issues. Not the end of the […]

EMBRACING THE NEW PORCH: A LOOK AT TOXIC FANDOM AND WHO DEFINES CANON — roguereviewer.

Let’s make this simple: You own a house. If you want to add a porch, it doesn’t matter if your neighbor—who has always loved that house—wants your house to be the way its been for 30 years without a porch. It doesn’t matter that he always felt the house should have a bay window instead. […]

    Today is September 11th.

    19 years ago today,

    Our nation was attacked.

    Four planes were hijacked.

Two crashed into the World Trade Center,

    One in the Pentagon,

And one in the middle of the Pennsylvania woods.

    It was a sad day.

    Many lives were lost.

We must never forget those lives that were lost.

That was not all that was lost, however.

From that day onwards, we’ve been in perpetual warfare in the Middle East.

From drone strikes to on-the-ground operations,

Many people, civilians, soldiers, and combatants, alike, had lost their lives.

Countless lives had been lost since 9/11 across the world, and no one bats an eye.

    It is sad to see,

But we must not forget the lives lost.

There’s a lot more that was lost since 9/11.

Tensions started to escalate all over the country.

From government to law enforcement to citizens to immigrants to even other countries,

    Everyone started to distrust everyone.

What had briefly united Americans eventually drove us further apart,

And the wounds have not fully healed.

The effects from the response to 9/11 can be felt globally to this very day.

2020 marked the beginning of a new decade.

This year, on this very day, we have a choice moving forward.

If we truly want to make the world a better place,

It has to start with us.

    Instead of fearing one another,

And viewing each other as enemies,

We need to look at each other as humans,

    As neighbors,

    As an extended family,

And we have to try to treat one another with empathy, compassion, and understanding.

That is how we can make this world a better place.

  • Orange Sky

    Orange Sky

They woke up one day to smoke-filled sky.

The sky was so smoky it turned it shades of red and orange.

    It was extremely eerie.

It seemed like a scene from a post-apocalyptic movie.

It look like the daylight sky you would see on Mars.

It was a sight to see.

I hope everyone in California and the West Coast will stay safe!

  • Crossroads

    Crossroads

2020 has been a crossroads for a great many things.

It’s been an intersection for a lot of hate and negativity.

Many words synonymous with negative can describe this year in a nutshell.

One word in particular is that it has seemed like literal Hell.

To some, this year has been really absurd.

To others, it’s been apocalyptic in nature.

Whatever the case though, we cannot let this year get us down.

We have to stay positive and be hopeful that things will get better.

If we want to improve the world, we have to take action and do so.

We, each and every one of us, need to make the world better if we want to see it better,

    And we can do that.

It all starts at the local level.

    Talk to people,

    Get to know them,

And by doing that, you have the potential to reach the hearts and minds of many!

    This year is a crossroads.

It is not just a crossroads of all the negative aspects of society,

But it is also a crossroads of the futures we want to see.

We have to decide from here what world we want to see.

If we want to see a just one, a fair one, a democratic one,

Then we have to strive for it,

And we have to put in the work.

All of us can do that,

    No matter our skillset.

We all have the power to make the world great.

  • The Sun’s Gone Dim And The Sky’s Turned Orange (Parody of “The Sun’s Gone Dim and The Sky’s Turned Black” by Johan Johansson)

The Sun’s Gone Dim And The Sky’s Turned Orange (Parody of “The Sun’s Gone Dim and The Sky’s Turned Black” by Johan Johansson)

Preface: So I came up with these parody lyrics for the song “The Sun’s Gone Dim and the Sky’s Turned Black” by Johan Johansson that relate to what is currently happening on the West Coast. There aren’t many lyrics to the song; just four lines. It is mostly an instrumental song. I will link the song below.

Ironically enough, this song was used in the trailer for the 2011 movie “Battle: Los Angeles,” which takes place in CA. California is also where the recent wildfires originated from.

Now, without further ado, here are the parody lyrics!

“The Sun’s Gone Dim and the Sky’s Turned Orange”

    By Jaime David

    The sun’s gone dim

    And the sky’s turned orange.

    The West Coast’s burnin’,

    Twenty-twenty’s been so crap.

  • Power To Change

    Power To Change

You have the power to change.

If you see injustice in this world, you have the power to change it.

You have the power to stand up for what’s right.

You have the power to stand up for human life.

    Human life is irreplaceable.

    All life is irreplaceable.

    Injustice is everywhere.

    Pain and suffering is everywhere.

If you want to make the world better, you have the power to change the world.

You have the power to make the world a better place.

    No matter who you are,

    Where you are,

    Or how old you are,

You have the power to change the world.

    From a tweet to post,

    To a YouTube or Tik Tok vid;

    Whether it’s writing or drawings,

    Sketches or murals,

    Posters or poems,

    Photos or convos

    Whatever it may be,

You have the power to change the world!

Whatever your skills or talents may be,

Use them to the best of your ability,

And while doing it, try to show some compassion and empathy,

For empathy can go a long way, you see.

Empathy allows us to understand one another and what we believe.

It allows us to understand things we may not have experienced.

It allows us to see how we can be better individuals.

It allows us to be a better society.

    Change is hard.

    Change is difficult.

    Change won’t come easy.

But if you want to make a difference,

    You have to be persistent.

If you want to end injustice,

You need to understand what caused it.

It is never too late to get involved and make a change.

It is never too late to take a stand against hate.

To quote a poem called “Change” that I wrote in December 2019,

    “Things change.

    Plans change.

    People change.

    We all change.

    Everyone changes.

    Everything changes.

    Change is all around us.

    It surrounds us.

    It’s all about us.

    It allows us

To be who we’re truly meant to be

And allows for us to see

The people we truly want to be!”

We have the power to be the change we want to see.

    To quote my poem “Perception,”

    “It takes just one word

To change the perception of someone’s world.”

    That is all it takes

    To make the world

    A better place.

You, fellow reader, have the power to change.
