Crossroads
2020 has been a crossroads for a great many things.
It’s been an intersection for a lot of hate and negativity.
Many words synonymous with negative can describe this year in a nutshell.
One word in particular is that it has seemed like literal Hell.
To some, this year has been really absurd.
To others, it’s been apocalyptic in nature.
Whatever the case though, we cannot let this year get us down.
We have to stay positive and be hopeful that things will get better.
If we want to improve the world, we have to take action and do so.
We, each and every one of us, need to make the world better if we want to see it better,
And we can do that.
It all starts at the local level.
Talk to people,
Get to know them,
And by doing that, you have the potential to reach the hearts and minds of many!
This year is a crossroads.
It is not just a crossroads of all the negative aspects of society,
But it is also a crossroads of the futures we want to see.
We have to decide from here what world we want to see.
If we want to see a just one, a fair one, a democratic one,
Then we have to strive for it,
And we have to put in the work.
All of us can do that,
No matter our skillset.
We all have the power to make the world great.

Preface: So I came up with these parody lyrics for the song “The Sun’s Gone Dim and the Sky’s Turned Black” by Johan Johansson that relate to what is currently happening on the West Coast. There aren’t many lyrics to the song; just four lines. It is mostly an instrumental song. I will link the song below.
Ironically enough, this song was used in the trailer for the 2011 movie “Battle: Los Angeles,” which takes place in CA. California is also where the recent wildfires originated from.

2020 So Far, In a Nutshell
First, there was the possibility of war with Iran.
No one knew if tensions between the two would result in conflict.
Then, the Australian wilderness was on fire.
It was intense.
Then, there was COVID-19.
Things were shutdown for months on end.
Then, places in the US started to reopen at different paces.
Some states have less cases, while others are increasing.
Then there was the death of George Floyd, which sparked protests all across the country.
There were even calls to defund, or even abolish, the police.
The response from the police was more brutality.
The effects of George Floyd’s death can be still felt a month later.
Now, there is the possibility of a bubonic plague outbreak.
There was a death in Mongolia, and recently Colorado.
There was even a squirrel who contracted the disease.
I am fearful how Trump and America would handle a bubonic plague outbreak.
They would be unprepared for something disastrous like that.
We can see how they are barely scraping by handling COVID-19.
Imagine how much worse it would be in America if there was an outbreak of the plague.
We’d all be fucked.

Imagination (My Response To John Lennon’s “Imagine”)
When I listen to this piece,
This musical piece by a man long deceased,
I can’t help but help wonder,
What the world would be like
If we cared for one another,
Gave to each other,
And were there for each other.
What would that world be like?
Would it be nice?
Would people act right?
Would we all not fight?
Would we not be superficial
And judge people
For the color of their skin,
Or for what was between their legs,
Or for who they chose to kiss,
Or for how they chose to dress,
Or for what their gender is,
Or for what their religion is,
Or for being atheists,
Or for having disabilities,
Or for not being rich,
Or for being homeless,
Or for not being intelligent,
Or for being promiscuous,
Or for being addicts,
Or for being imprisoned,
Or for being furry friends?
What would such a world be like?
Would we stand up for what’s right
And not lose sight

Climate Change Is Real
After reading this article by the NY Times, I was somewhat inspired to write a short poem about climate change in response to the title of the article. Hope you enjoy!

It’s been a few days into 2020, and already, there is the real possibility of war between Iran and the United States. Trump had recently ordered an assassination on Iranian general Qassem Soleimani, who was one of the top generals in Iran. I don’t know much about Soleimani, but from what I had heard about him, he was not the best individual, morally-speaking. However, regardless of whether or not he was a “bad person,” was he a direct threat? I think not. There are talks that he threatened an attack on the US embassy in Iran, however, from what I have seen, nothing serious came out of it. For the most part, his threats were nothing more than just words, not actions! However, the US assassinated him, essentially basing their justifications on talks, rumors, and words, instead of concrete actions! Don’t get me wrong, though! I am all about taking necessary steps to preventing imminent attacks to protect people. However, there has to be concrete evidence, beyond a shadow of a doubt, proving that an attack was imminent! So far, nothing of that nature has been presented. The only reason that was given was that it was to “prevent a war!” Well, I don’t think that’s doing much, for now, Iran wants to retaliate, and understandably so! Thus, Trump ordered an attack on a sovereign nation’s top military commander based on faulty logic and BS information! In fact, Trump ordered the attack without Congressional approval! This situation has turned out to be a disaster in the making. And what’s ironic is that Trump complained on Twitter during Obama’s presidency that Obama was going to start a war with Iran to get re-elected. That didn’t happen. However, Trump is up for re-election in 2020, and currently, as of writing this, there is a real possibility of war with Iran, and that’s not under Obama; it’s under Trump! How ironic. And Trump’s response is that he is ready to send thousands of troops at any moment! Oh God! Let’s just hope they don’t enact another draft!
