Seriously, who gives a fuck? Companies act like one shared password is going to somehow be broadcast to the entire world, and suddenly everyone is streaming or using a single account at once. Let’s be real—does anyone actually believe that’s going to happen?
Most platforms already have robust systems in place to prevent truly suspicious logins. If someone tries to access your account from a new location or device, you’re typically prompted to verify it’s really you. So the idea that sharing a password is some catastrophic security risk is overblown. Even if someone somehow does get access to your account, whose problem is that? It’s the user’s. The responsibility lies with the individual, not the company.
Yet companies continue to roll out these ridiculous crackdowns, pretending like they’re solving a massive problem. Users should have the freedom to decide how they manage their own accounts and credentials. If a person chooses to be careless, that’s on them. Meanwhile, the company is still making money, and that’s really the bottom line. If an account gets shared with a few people, who honestly cares?
