🎶 Shawn Mendes and the Life Is Strange TV Series: Could He Refresh an Iconic Soundtrack?

Hey folks! So, I recently came across some interesting news about the upcoming Life Is Strange live-action show — Shawn Mendes is apparently heading up the music. Now, I know this isn’t exactly fresh off the press. The news has been floating around for a little while, but I only just found out about it from a YouTube video by Noer called “The Life is Strange Show Has Me Concerned…” that dropped just three days ago, on May 25, 2025. (Here’s the link if you want to check it out: https://youtu.be/hmjUR4zCXc4?si=FvhYs-HTacQt3c8l).

What We Know About Shawn Mendes’ Involvement

So far, it looks like Shawn Mendes is not only executive producing but also taking charge of the show’s music through his company Permanent Content. Reports from outlets like Teen Vogue mention Mendes’ focus on emotional storytelling, which seems like a good fit given the heartfelt nature of Life Is Strange (Teen Vogue).

The Original Soundtrack — Loved, But a Bit Dated

Let’s be real: the Life Is Strange game soundtrack is amazing. Songs by Syd Matters, Angus & Julia Stone, José González, and others perfectly captured that indie, melancholic, and nostalgic mood that the game thrives on. Tracks like “Obstacles” and “Spanish Sahara” aren’t just background music — they’re emotional anchors for players. They are the game’s soul.

But here’s the thing — the game came out back in 2015, and the soundtrack, while still beautiful, does feel a bit… stuck in the past. Indie folk and atmospheric alternative music from a decade ago doesn’t always hit the same way with today’s younger audiences or those who might be new to the franchise. The style is a bit dated, and some of the production feels tied to that era.

Why Shawn Mendes Could Be a Great Fit

This is where Shawn Mendes’ involvement could be a game-changer. Shawn is known for his emotional vocal style and has shown he can pull off stripped-down, intimate performances (think of acoustic versions of his songs). His ability to blend pop with alternative elements means he could take the original Life Is Strange songs and give them a fresh, modern polish — without losing the heart and soul of the originals.

Imagine Shawn Mendes covering “Obstacles” or “Spanish Sahara” with a modern twist that appeals to today’s audience but still respects the emotional core of the game. That kind of approach could introduce these songs to a whole new generation, making them more relatable and impactful.

Plus, Shawn’s history of collaborating with other artists — Justin Bieber, Charlie Puth, and more — means there’s potential for exciting musical partnerships to bring diversity and depth to the soundtrack.

What Fans Are Worried About — And What I Think Needs to Happen

A lot of fans are understandably nervous about Shawn Mendes taking over the music because they fear the show might ditch the iconic songs for Mendes’ own pop hits or a totally different style. That would be a big misstep and could disappoint longtime fans who hold the original soundtrack close to their hearts.

My hope is that Mendes doesn’t just drop his own music in the show. Instead, he should cover every major song from the game — preserving their emotional weight but modernizing the arrangements and production. This could be the best compromise: honoring the original music and giving it new life.

Final Thoughts: A Fresh Soundtrack for a New Generation

So yeah, the news about Shawn Mendes leading the music isn’t brand new, but discovering it recently made me think a lot about how this could work if done right.

The Life Is Strange soundtrack is undeniably powerful, but it is tied to a specific era and sound that might not resonate as well with today’s viewers. If Shawn Mendes brings a fresh, modern perspective — covering the beloved songs and collaborating with other artists to enhance the sound — it could give the show’s music a new heartbeat that hits just as hard, if not harder.

I’m cautiously optimistic. What do you think? Would you want Shawn Mendes to cover the original Life Is Strange songs, or would you prefer something different? Drop your thoughts below!

Episode 2 of the podcast is out!

🎙️ The Jaime David Podcast — Episode 2: “Instant Gratification”

    JAIME DAVID (calm, thoughtful tone):

Hey everyone—and welcome back to The Jaime David Podcast.

I’m Jaime David, and this podcast is all about peeling back the layers of my writing—sharing the thoughts, the emotions, and the context behind each piece. If you missed Episode 1, we dove into my very first blog post, Rain, and how even simple weather observations can open the door to deeper reflections.

Today, we’re moving on to a poem I posted the very next day—October 28, 2019. It’s short, it’s tight, and it packs a punch. The piece is called Instant Gratification.

Let me read it for you.

    JAIME DAVID (reading “Instant Gratification”):

    When we have a fixation
    For gratification
    That is instantaneous,
We are left in a state of
    Feeling constantly voracious.

    JAIME DAVID (reflection/analysis):

So yeah—this one’s a compact five-line poem, but I think it says a lot about the culture we live in. When I wrote this, I was thinking about how everything was speeding up. Social media, streaming, food delivery, online shopping—you name it. Everything was becoming instant. And that seemed exciting on the surface… but also kind of dangerous underneath.

The rhythm of this piece is deliberate. There’s a bounce in the rhyme—fixation, gratification, instantaneous, voracious. It almost sounds playful at first. But then you realize what it’s really saying: that chasing the high of instant rewards makes us hungry for more—and never really satisfied.

That word voracious—it’s doing a lot of heavy lifting here. It’s not just hunger. It’s insatiable. Desperate. Like no matter how much you get, you still want more.

     PERSONAL REFLECTION:

This poem was definitely me processing my own habits. Like, I’m not above it—I’ve scrolled endlessly, binge-watched whole seasons, bought things on impulse. I’ve felt that weird emptiness after getting what I thought I wanted… too quickly.

And I think writing this was my way of stepping back and going: Wait a minute—is this really healthy? Is it possible that the more we chase immediacy, the more we lose our capacity to sit with things, to wait, to appreciate slow growth?

     SOCIETAL CONNECTION:

Zooming out a bit, I think this poem feels even more relevant now. Algorithms are designed to feed us what we want—instantly. But it’s kind of like junk food for the mind, right? It fills you up, but you’re empty again an hour later.

And the danger is, this craving for immediate gratification can spill over into how we treat people, how we learn, how we pursue goals. If something doesn’t give us a quick win, we’re tempted to give up on it. That’s a scary thought when it comes to things like relationships, activism, or creative work—stuff that takes time and effort.

     OUTRO:

So that’s Instant Gratification. A short poem with a long echo. I hope it made you pause and think about your own habits—and whether slowing down might actually bring more satisfaction in the long run.

Thanks for spending time with me today on The Jaime David Podcast. You can read this poem and all the others on my blog at jaimedavid.blog. If this episode resonated with you, feel free to share it, subscribe, and leave a comment or review wherever you’re listening.

Next time, I’ll be picking another early post to unpack—maybe something a little more personal, a little more introspective. I’ll let the muses guide me.

    Until then—keep musing.

    JAIME DAVID (calm, thoughtful tone):

Hey everyone—and welcome to the very first episode of The Jaime David Podcast.

I’m your host, Jaime David, and this podcast is a space where I reflect on my writing, share poetry, and dive deep into the thoughts and experiences behind each piece. Think of it as a behind-the-scenes, spoken-word journal—part performance, part analysis, all heart.

Most of the poems and posts I’ll be discussing come from my blog, The Musings of Jaime David—and you can find all of them over at jaimedavid.blog.

And today, we’re starting with the very first poem I ever posted there. It’s called “Rain”—and it went live on October 27, 2019. That was almost six years ago.

    Let’s jump in.

    JAIME DAVID (reading “Rain”):

    It’s raining today.
It’s a cold, dark, damp, miserable day out.
It seems that it rains almost every day in New York.

Now, I get that rain is important.
I get that it waters the grass, the plants, the trees,
    and replenishes the oceans, lakes, and rivers, but still;
it sucks when it rains almost constantly.

    Constant showers, constant downpours,
    constant gusts of wind and rain;
it gets on your nerves after a while.

    Not only that,
but it’s really unusual to see occur in New York so often.

From what I remember when I was younger,
    it never rained so often.
There would be the occasional shower here and there,
but it wasn’t an almost daily or weekly occurrence.

    And why would it?
This isn’t the South or the Midwest where it’s humid a lot of the time
or where the weather is dynamic a lot of the time.

No! This is New York. This is the East Coast.
The weather is supposed to be stable. It’s supposed to be temperate.

To see rain almost every single day or week
makes me think that I stepped into the Twilight Zone
to a universe where New York has the weather of Seattle.

I don’t know why the weather is like this for sure,
but I hypothesize it has something to do with climate change.
I believe that the exuberant emission of greenhouse gases
is dynamically changing the weather patterns in New York
to the point where it’s similar to Washington State or Florida weather
    where it rains almost constantly.

    JAIME DAVID (reflection/analysis):

Looking back on this poem… I feel like this was me just venting in a poetic way—but also trying to make sense of something bigger. The weather had changed, and it was frustrating, but also kind of eerie.

It’s written in prose, but it has rhythm. There’s repetition—“constant showers, constant downpours”—and you can hear the tension building in the way I stack those lines. I didn’t fully realize it at the time, but that build-up mirrors the emotional fatigue of seeing gray skies every day.

There’s a lot of contrast too: memory vs. present, stability vs. chaos, what New York used to be vs. what it was becoming. And that’s not just about weather—it’s about identity. Like the city I thought I knew was shifting under my feet.

    JAIME DAVID (societal connection):

Now, the part that stands out most to me now is the mention of climate change.

This was 2019, but even back then, I had this gut feeling that things weren’t normal anymore. That line—

“I hypothesize it has something to do with climate change…”

—feels almost like a quiet alarm bell. A small voice trying to name something huge.

And six years later, we know even more. We’ve had floods, heat waves, smoke-filled skies from wildfires. Rain in NYC doesn’t feel strange anymore—it feels like a symptom. And in that way, this poem is accidentally prophetic.

    JAIME DAVID (personal reflection):

Revisiting this now, I realize how much I was trying to process through writing—confusion, dissonance, and even grief for a version of home that felt like it was disappearing.

And maybe that’s the real power of poetry—it captures the moment, but it also becomes a mirror years later. A mirror that shows us what we were feeling even when we didn’t have all the words for it yet.

    JAIME DAVID (closing):

Thanks for listening to this first episode of The Jaime David Podcast. I hope this look back gave you something to think about—whether it’s how weather affects your mood, or how writing can become a way to track your understanding of the world.

If you enjoyed it, follow the podcast, check out the original post on my blog at jaimedavid.blog, and share it with someone who maybe needs a little poetic reflection in their day.

Next time, I’ll be revisiting another early piece—maybe something more emotional, more lyrical. We’ll see. I’ve got a lot to unpack.

    Until then—keep musing.

  • In this together

    In this together

    We’re all in this together.

    All of us.

    The whole world is.

All of us live on this one planet.

    We coexist with one another.

We should learn to make the world better.

This is the only world we got,

And we only got a limited time on it.

We should make it the best experience as possible for everyone.

  • Stand for something

    Stand for something

    Stand for something.

It’s important to stand for something.

If you don’t take a stand, who will?

    No one will.

  • Kanye

    Kanye

    Fucking Nazis.

What’s happening to Kanye’s so sad.

    He’s being taken advantage of

    By Neo Nazis

And has become the face of white supremacy.

They’re weaponizing his condition against him

    And taking advantage of him,

And he doesn’t even see it.

    It’s disgusting.

    It’s abhorrent.

And the saddest part is, they don’t give a shit about him.

    Not one bit.

    If they have their way,

He would be the first to go.

    He’s spreading hatred and bigotry

To millions of people with his platform.

He’s normalizing white supremancists’ ideas for them.

He has the potential to radicalize people with his hateful rhetoric and ideas.

    It’s dangerous.

    It’s horrid.

    It’s sad.

He has to be called out and held accountable for his actions,

And so do the people who Kanye associates with.

    They all do,

And anyone else who spreads hateful messaging.

They all need to be held accountable,

And Kanye needs to get help.

    He needs to get treatment.

    I doubt he’ll read this,

But on the off chance he does,

    Kanye,

I loved your music back in the day.

    Your songs were great.

I really liked your old music a lot.

But now, seeing you like this,

    A white supremacist,

    A fascist,

    I can’t rock with this.

I won’t put up with it.

    It’s disturbing to see

You’re the complete opposite from who you used to be.

    And it’s scary to see.

I have friends who are racial minorities.

    I, myself, am mixed race.

To see this country full of hate,

And to see this shit spread

    On the mainstream web,

    Is just disturbing to see,

    And it makes this country

    Feel unsafe for me.

    I worry about my friends.

I don’t want anything to happen to them.

    They’re like family.

And to see this shit spread like wildfire

    Is disheartening to me.

It’s hard to process or believe

    What’s been happening.

    It’s all crazy.

    It’s all fucked up.

    It’s all messed up.

It’s all twisted, turned upside down.

I don’t know what will happen.

    These times are uncertain.

But I do know is, you have to remain positive.

I know that’s easier said than done,

    Especially in these times.

    Make new friends,

    Meet new people,

Keep in touch with friends you do have,

    Network,

Do hobbies and things you like.

    Whatever brings you happiness,

Do it, to a reasonable degree.

    Hold onto your money,

    For things might get bad.

Stay close to your friends and fam.

Whomever makes you happy, hold onto them.

You need to have as much support as you can during these troubling times.

  • Nuclear war????

    Nuclear war????

    Fuck Zalensky.

    Fuck Putin.

    Fuck Biden.

    Fuck the Ukraine.

    Fuck Russia.

    Fuck the USA.

I don’t want to fight in a goddamn war.

I don’t want to fight for some rich folks who started this shit.

I don’t want to fight for some assholes who stoked this conflict.

I don’t want to be involved in this shit.

    All these countries suck.

    All these leaders suck.

I don’t know who to believe, who to trust.

    They’re all lying.

    They’re all corrupt.

I don’t want to shoot or kill

    Innocent civillians

Who had nothing to do with this.

I don’t want to have a nuclear bomb dropped over my head.

I don’t want any war, period.

I want this shit to end.

    I want it to de-escalate.

I want there to be peace.

I want there to be negotiations.

    I don’t want a war,

    Whether it’s nuclear

    Or some other variety.

    I want peace.

I want this endless bloodshed to cease.

    I don’t want to die.

I don’t want this world to end.

I don’t want to lose my friends.

I don’t want to lose my family.

    Yet these leaders cannot see

The suffering that is caused by their incompetencies.

    It’s hard to believe

That all they have is apathy

    For you and me,

    But you see,

That’s what capitalism does to ye.

    That’s what it is.

    It’s a machine.

    It has no empathy.

It only cares about profits and money.

It does not care if people die

As long as it doesn’t affect their bottom line.

It does not care if the world ends

As long as they got more money than they could spend.

These rich fucks don’t care about human beings.

    It’s fucking sickening.

    It gets on my nerves.

    It pisses me off.

It pisses me the fuck off.

I wish I could tell them to fuck off.

    I wish they’d knew.

I wish we could start anew.

I wish we could create a better system

Based off of kindness and decency.

I wish we could create a system where there were no hierarchies.

    The rich won’t get richer,

And the poor won’t get poorer.

In fact, there won’t be any rich or poor at all,

There’d be no money at all.

There’d be adequate housing for the homeless.

There’d be quality healthcare that won’t cost a cent.

There’d be decent mental healthcare for people with special needs.

What the fuck is wrong with this country?

What the fuck is wrong with the USA?

    This country’s all fucked.

Our priorities are all fucked up.

We put money and profits first above all else.

Instead, we need to be looking out for one another than put each other down.

We all live on one world.

    We share the same air,

    The same ocean,

    The same land,

    The same resources,

    The same planet.

Maybe we should start helping each other than hurting each other.

    It’s infuriating.

    I wish things can change.

I wish the world can change.

    No more violence.

    No more hate.

    No more bigotry.

    No more discrimination.

I wish we can live in a world like that.

    Maybe we still can.

  • Another

    Another

How many times do we gotta go through this.

Every fucking week, it’s another fucking shooting.

    I’m sick of it.

    I’m sick of this shit.

I’m sick of the hatred and division that stems from this shit.

I’m sick of the hatred and division that causes this shit.

These shootings are treated like national fucking spectacles.

They’re in the news for one minute, and then they’re forgotten.

This shit reminds me of the Spongebob meme with that blue fish,

The one that says “How many times do we have to teach you this lesson.”

How many times do we have to go through these fucking shootings before the country takes this shit seriously?

The callousness, carelessness, apathy, and disregard for the victims involved.

And don’t get me started on the fucking conspiracy theories that surround these mass shootings,

Calling them false fucking flags and stupid shit like that

Or saying that the victims were just crisis actors.

    Like what the fuck?

Who the fuck in their right mind would fake something like that?

And if these shootings happen every single week, it seems,

Does it mean all of them are fake?

    If that’s the case,

Then that would be some real elaborate and convoluted shit.

The simpler explanation is that this country is full of hatred.

Hatred is perpetuated in media and TV.

Violence is glorified in both fiction and nonfiction.

Division is sowed throughout all aspects of our lives.

Fear is distilled by pundits and leaders.

That shit is perpetuated in the news and mainstream.

We are told to view others as the enemy.

We are told that others are the cause of our problems.

We are told to be scared of others instead of care for others.

All of this hate and negativity fuels this country and sends it onto a dark path.

As you can tell from this post, I’m angry.

I think the excessive amount of swear words in this post is a good indication of that.

    I am angry.

I am angry that people keep dying.

I am angry that division and hatred in this country seems to only get worse.

I am angry that our leaders don’t do jack shit for us, which only allows things to fester and get worse.

I am angry about all the things that can be done for the people that haven’t

And I am angry about all the things that are being done to the people that shouldn’t.

    But I am also sad.

I am sad that things just seem to get worse.

As some of you who follow this blog have noticed,

    I haven’t posted for over a year.

I needed a lot of space and time to decompress.

It just became too much trying to figure out topics to come up with on my blog,

And paying too much attention to the news just got depressing,

So I stepped away for a bit.

But this recent mass shooting motivated me to get back into writing.

It motivated me to write this.

    What is this?

    I don’t know.

    A poem?

    A vent?

    A mix of both?

    A motivational post?

    Maybe.

But how is this motivational if it’s only me venting most of the time?

Well, the motivational part comes in now.

No matter how bad things may be, don’t give up hope.

No matter how bad things get, things can get better.

Even if you don’t believe they will you have to remain positive.

Don’t let the hate and negativity get you down.

    This world is hectic.

    This world is chaotic.

But in the chaos, you can find a sense of order,

    A sense of happiness,

    A sense of peace.

    How?

    I don’t know.

    That’s honestly up to you.

    Whatever makes you happy,

    Whatever brings you joy,

    Focus on that.

And if there are people who make you happy,

    Keep those people.

    In short,

    This life is short,

So don’t focus too much on the hatred and negativity.

Try not to let it get you down.

    Do what makes you happy,

And most of all, don’t hurt others.

    Don’t put down others.

People, for the most part, want to live their lives the best they can.

We all want happiness and success and to be something.

We all have goals and dreams and ambitions.

Some people may not be good people.

Some people may want to hurt others and only look out for themselves.

But most people are not like that,

At least I don’t think so, anyways.

Most people are just trying to get by the best they can in the only ways they themselves know how to.

We all have our own lives.

We all have our own paths.

    Sometimes those paths intersect.

    Sometimes they don’t.

Whatever the case, don’t let people put you down.

    Today is September 11th.

    19 years ago today,

    Our nation was attacked.

    Four planes were hijacked.

Two crashed into the World Trade Center,

    One in the Pentagon,

And one in the middle of the Pennsylvania woods.

    It was a sad day.

    Many lives were lost.

We must never forget those lives that were lost.

That was not all that was lost, however.

From that day onwards, we’ve been in perpetual warfare in the Middle East.

From drone strikes to on-the-ground operations,

Many people, civilians, soldiers, and combatants, alike, had lost their lives.

Countless lives had been lost since 9/11 across the world, and no one bats an eye.

    It is sad to see,

But we must not forget the lives lost.

There’s a lot more that was lost since 9/11.

Tensions started to escalate all over the country.

From government to law enforcement to citizens to immigrants to even other countries,

    Everyone started to distrust everyone.

What had briefly united Americans eventually drove us further apart,

And the wounds have not fully healed.

The effects from the response to 9/11 can be felt globally to this very day.

2020 marked the beginning of a new decade.

This year, on this very day, we have a choice moving forward.

If we truly want to make the world a better place,

It has to start with us.

    Instead of fearing one another,

And viewing each other as enemies,

We need to look at each other as humans,

    As neighbors,

    As an extended family,

And we have to try to treat one another with empathy, compassion, and understanding.

That is how we can make this world a better place.
