Dear MTA,
Can we talk about this stupid announcement you make when a train is supposedly being diverted off its regular route?
Except, the fuck it isn’t.
I’m sitting on the train, listening to this announcement telling me that the train is being diverted off its regular route. Meanwhile, I can literally look at the damn screen inside the train and see exactly where the train is going next.
So what the fuck are we talking about here?
When you tell me a train is being diverted off its regular route, that makes me think we’re skipping stops, taking a different route, or something else is happening that I should probably know about.
But if the train is proceeding along its regular route, and the screen is showing me the same damn stops as usual, then what exactly is the point of this announcement?
Seriously, MTA, if nothing is actually changing about the train’s route, then why the hell are you announcing that it’s being diverted off its regular route?
It’s confusing. It’s unnecessary. And it’s completely useless if the train isn’t actually being diverted anywhere.
PLEASE STOP MAKING THIS STUPID ANNOUNCEMENT IF NOTHING IS ACTUALLY HAPPENING.
Sincerely,
A very confused and increasingly annoyed New Yorker who just wants to know where the fuck their train is going.
