Dear Mayor Zohran Mamdani,
I have a proposal for you. And yes, I’m partially joking, but I’m also partially serious.
Zohran, bring brunch back! Make brunch great again!
Hear me out.
I think NYC needs a massive brunch campaign. And I’m not just talking about promoting restaurants or encouraging people to go out and spend money. I’m talking about bringing people together. Building community. Getting New Yorkers to actually socialize with one another.
Imagine city-sponsored brunch events throughout the five boroughs. Events where people can get together, sit around a table, enjoy some food, have conversations, meet new people, and just spend time with one another.
No bars. No clubs. No pressure to drink. Just good food and good company.
And if the biggest concern is affordability, here’s an idea: THE CITY COVERS THE BILL!
That’s right. Free community brunches!
We could have neighborhood brunch gatherings, borough-wide brunch events, and maybe even one massive NYC community brunch. Get restaurants involved, support local businesses, and give New Yorkers an opportunity to connect with people they otherwise might never meet.
Think about it. We spend so much time talking about affordability, public spaces, community, and bringing people together. Why not make brunch part of that conversation?
Not everyone wants to socialize over drinks. Not everyone wants to go clubbing. Some of us just want to sit down with a bunch of people, eat some pancakes, have a conversation, and enjoy ourselves.
And honestly, I think there’s something beautiful about that.
So, Mayor Zohran, I’m putting this proposal out there:
MAKE BRUNCH GREAT AGAIN.
Let’s bring New Yorkers together, one plate at a time.
Because apparently, in the greatest city in the world, finding a brunch group is harder than it should be. 😂
