There, I said it. I think How I Met Your Mother is better than Friends. And honestly? I’m willing to stand by that opinion.
Now, before anyone comes after me, let me explain.
I watched Friends for the first time, and I thought it was funny. I enjoyed it. I understood why it became such a popular sitcom and why so many people love it.
But here’s the thing: when I tried rewatching it for a second time, I got bored. Seriously. I couldn’t even get past the first episode.
Meanwhile, How I Met Your Mother? I can easily go back and rewatch that show. Multiple times, even. And I think there’s a reason for that.
I find HIMYM more entertaining.
There’s something about the way How I Met Your Mother tells its stories that makes it more enjoyable to revisit. The characters, the running jokes, the storytelling, the flashbacks, the callbacks, and even the way the show plays around with its timeline. It has a certain charm that keeps me interested.
And honestly, I think another factor is that HIMYM feels more modern.
Don’t get me wrong. I know Friends was hugely influential, and I’m not denying its place in television history. But let’s be real: some aspects of it feel dated nowadays. It’s a product of its time, and watching it today can feel a little different than it probably did when it originally aired.
How I Met Your Mother, on the other hand, feels more entertaining to revisit. At least in my opinion.
And that’s ultimately what matters to me when it comes to sitcoms. Can I come back to a show after I’ve already seen it? Can I still laugh at the jokes? Can I still enjoy the characters and their adventures even when I already know what’s coming?
For HIMYM, the answer is absolutely yes.
For Friends? Well, apparently not so much.
So yeah, unpopular opinion perhaps, but I’ll say it again:
How I Met Your Mother is better than Friends.
There. I said it. Fight me. 😂
What do you think? Are you Team HIMYM or Team Friends?
