Here’s a simple feature I think Facebook Messenger desperately needs.
With the rise of spam messages, random group invitations, and people adding you to group chats you never asked to be part of, I think it’s time Messenger made dealing with these things a whole lot easier.
And here’s my idea.
Combine the “Leave Group” and “Delete Chat” buttons into one!
Think about it. Let’s say somebody randomly adds you to a spam group chat. You don’t know these people, you never asked to join, and you certainly don’t want to be there.
Now, sure, you can leave the group and then separately delete the conversation from your inbox. But why should you have to do two separate things?
Instead, Messenger should introduce a single button that does both simultaneously.
“Leave Group & Delete Chat.”
You press it, and BOOM! You’re out of the group, and the conversation disappears from your chat list. One click. Two actions. Problem solved.
And I think this feature would be especially useful for group chats that Messenger has already identified as spam and placed in the spam folder.
If Messenger already recognizes that a conversation is potentially spam, why not give users an easy way to get rid of it completely?
Of course, this shouldn’t just be limited to spam. It could be available for any group conversation. Sometimes you just want to leave a group and get rid of the conversation without having to go through multiple steps.
Look, I know this isn’t some revolutionary technological breakthrough. It’s a pretty simple quality-of-life feature.
But sometimes the simplest features are the ones that make the biggest difference.
Come on, Facebook. Give us a “Leave Group & Delete Chat” button.
I don’t think that’s asking for too much, is it?
