JAIME DAVID (host):
Hey everyone, welcome back to The Jaime David Podcast. This is Episode 28, and today, we’re going to talk about something that continues to shape our world in damaging and destructive ways—racism.
This isn’t just a word. It’s not just a bad attitude or a slur shouted on the street. Racism is a system. One that was built, maintained, and passed down through generations. One that continues to harm people every single day.
Here’s the poem I wrote on this, simple and to the point—but powerful nonetheless. It’s called “Racism.”
Racism
Racism; it is a system
Where a person is treated different
For the color of their skin pigments.
It is a system
That has oppressed millions
For many generations.
The only way to end it
Is to fight against it.
In order to do that, we must acknowledge
The existence
Of white privilege.
JAIME DAVID (host):
Racism isn’t just about individual hate—it’s about institutional power. It’s woven into housing policies, education funding, hiring practices, policing, healthcare, and media representation. It’s not just one person being mean to another. It’s one group holding power while others are excluded, exploited, or erased.
And like the poem says, if we want to end it, we have to fight against it. That means actively challenging racism wherever we see it—whether it’s subtle or overt, systemic or interpersonal.
But here’s the thing: that fight starts with acknowledging white privilege.
A lot of people get defensive about that phrase, like it means they didn’t work hard or earn what they have. But that’s not what it means. White privilege means not having to worry about the things others do—like being followed in a store, being denied housing, or fearing for your life in a routine traffic stop—just because of the color of your skin.
It means the system, by default, favors you.
Once we acknowledge that, we can start making space for real change. We can listen to those who’ve been silenced, support those fighting for justice, and push for policies that dismantle racist systems.
We have to stop pretending racism is just a relic of the past. It’s alive, it’s harmful, and it’s on all of us to do something about it.
So keep asking the hard questions. Keep having the tough conversations. And don’t be afraid to confront your own place in the system—because that’s how we start to change it.
Thanks for tuning in to Episode 28 of The Jaime David Podcast. Let’s keep learning, unlearning, and doing better—together. See you in the next one.
